Short answer

Neither sale is cheaper across the board. The card in your wallet decides most of it: SBI cards get 10% instant off on Amazon’s Great Indian Festival from 8 October, while Axis Bank and ICICI Bank cards get 10% on Flipkart’s Big Billion Days from 9 October (early access 8 October).

Amazon has historically been stronger for Apple and its own devices, Flipkart for budget and mid-range Android phones and big appliances. Compare the exact same variant on both apps before you pay.

Both sales run in October 2026 and overlap by design. On 8 October you can shop Amazon’s full sale and Flipkart’s early access at the same time, which makes it the best day to compare the two side by side.

Dates side by side

Amazon Great Indian Festival 2026 starts on 8 October. Amazon says Prime members get early access, but it had not published the exact early window when we checked; some reports put it on 7 October. Amazon’s early deals are already live on Amazon.in. For the first four “hero” days Amazon runs Grand Opening Deals from midnight to 12 PM, Mega Deals from 12 PM to 8 PM and 8 PM Deals from 8 PM to midnight.

Flipkart Big Billion Days 2026 opens to everyone on 9 October, with a 24-hour early access window for Flipkart Plus, Flipkart Black and Flipkart credit card holders starting 8 October at midnight. Flipkart has had pre-sale price drops since 24 September. Neither company had announced an end date.

Bank offers compared

Amazon’s confirmed headline offer is a 10% instant discount for SBI credit, debit and credit card EMI transactions. Flipkart’s is a 10% instant discount for Axis Bank and ICICI Bank cards, plus 10% savings with the Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card and 10% cashback on the first transaction through super.money. Neither store had published the maximum discount per card when we checked. Last year the Big Billion Days cap was ₹1,750 per card on a ₹5,000 minimum, and that is a sensible planning number for both.

Worked example: the same phone on both apps

Say the same phone is listed at ₹32,999 on Amazon and ₹31,999 on Flipkart. Assume a ₹1,750 cap on both bank offers (the 2026 caps are not yet public).

AmazonFlipkart
Listed price₹32,999₹31,999
With SBI card₹31,249 (₹1,750 off)₹31,999 (no SBI offer)
With Axis or ICICI card₹32,999 (no offer)₹30,249 (₹1,750 off)
With Amazon Pay ICICI (Prime)₹32,999 minus 5% back = about ₹31,349₹31,999
With no eligible card₹32,999₹31,999

The cheaper listing is not always the cheaper purchase. An SBI cardholder pays less on Amazon even though Flipkart’s sticker is ₹1,000 lower. Our sale bank offer calculator runs this for any price.

Prime vs Plus and Black

Amazon Prime plans range from ₹399 a year for the Prime Shopping Edition to ₹1,499 a year for full Prime, which also includes Prime Video. Amazon says Prime members get an early access window for events such as the Great Indian Festival, and up to 10% extra benefits during the festival. The Amazon Pay ICICI card also pays 5% to Prime members and 3% to others.

Flipkart Plus is free and earned through orders; Flipkart Black is a paid plan at ₹1,499 a year that includes YouTube Premium. Both get the 8 October early access; members are reported to get up to 12% (Plus) and up to 15% (Black) extra during early access. Read is Prime worth it in 2026 and Flipkart Black vs Plus.

Category strengths

Amazon has historically been stronger for Apple products, Kindle, Echo and its own devices, plus certain premium electronics brands. Flipkart has historically been stronger for budget and mid-range Android phones, and for large appliances and furniture through its wider seller network. Flipkart’s 2026 title sponsors are Samsung Galaxy and Intel Core Ultra, so expect Samsung phones and Intel laptops to be pushed hard there.

Both platforms run comparable exchange, No Cost EMI and combo offers. Amazon Pay Later offers 10% cashback on selected purchases and “Pay in 3” interest-free EMIs on carts of ₹1,500 and above. Flipkart pushes Pay Later and card EMI with flat discounts; check the terms on the product page.

Delivery and reach

Amazon says it offers same-day delivery on over 1 million products and next-day delivery on over 4 million, with Amazon Now delivering within minutes in 65+ cities. Flipkart says it has added 750+ new pin codes for Big Billion Days, 14 million cubic feet of warehouse space and 1,200+ Flipkart Minutes micro-fulfilment centres across 150+ cities. In a big city both are fast. In a smaller town, check the delivery date on both apps before choosing; a lower price that arrives after Diwali is not much use for a gift.

Returns and cancellations

Both platforms generally keep their standard return windows during festival sales. High-demand categories such as mobiles are often replacement-only for defects on both. Read the return line on each product page before ordering, record the unboxing, and report problems within the window.

How to use both sales together

You do not have to pick one store for everything. The smart approach is to split your list by card and category:

  1. 7 October, evening: have carts ready on both apps with the same models. Note each listed price.
  2. 8 October: Amazon’s sale is live and Flipkart’s early access opens for Plus, Black and Flipkart card holders. Compare the final price on both, after the bank offer you can actually use.
  3. 9 October: Flipkart opens to everyone. If you missed early access, compare again; some early-access prices stay, some go.
  4. Use both caps. If you hold an SBI card and an Axis card, buy one big item on each platform to use both bank caps instead of pushing two items through one card.
  5. Keep watching. Neither sale has an announced end date, and prices move across the weeks up to Diwali on 8 November.

Example: a family with an SBI card and an ICICI card wants a ₹35,000 TV and a ₹22,000 phone. Buying the TV on whichever store has it cheaper after the offer, and the phone on the other, can save up to ₹3,500 in bank discounts (two caps of ₹1,750, if last year’s cap holds), against ₹1,750 if both went through one card.

A simple decision checklist

  • Have an SBI card: lean Amazon for the 10% instant discount.
  • Have an Axis or ICICI card: lean Flipkart for the 10% instant discount.
  • Buying Apple products: check Amazon first, then compare with Flipkart’s iPhone deals.
  • Buying a budget or mid-range Android phone: check Flipkart first, then compare with Amazon.
  • Always compare the exact same variant and colour, since pricing can differ by configuration.
  • Check price history before trusting either sale’s “lowest price”. Our fake discount checker helps.

Questions people ask

Do the two sales really overlap this year?

Yes. Flipkart’s Plus and Black early access starts 8 October at midnight, the same day Amazon’s festival begins, so both platforms are effectively live at the same time from 8 October onward.

Can I use both SBI and Axis/ICICI offers on the same purchase?

No, each platform’s bank offer only applies to purchases made on that platform, so you would need to buy the item on Amazon to use SBI or on Flipkart to use Axis/ICICI, not both at once.

Which platform has better return policies during the sale?

Both platforms generally keep their standard return windows during festival sales, though high-demand categories like mobiles may be replacement-only rather than full-refund on either platform. Always check the specific product page.

Is it worth getting Prime or Flipkart Plus just for this sale?

If the membership cost is lower than the extra discount and early access value you would get on a planned purchase, it is usually worth it. Flipkart Plus is free and earned through orders; Prime plans start at ₹399 a year.

Is Amazon or Flipkart cheaper for iPhones in 2026?

It changes by model and day. Amazon has historically been strong on Apple, but Flipkart has pushed iPhone deals hard too. Compare the same model and storage on both after your card offer.

What is the bank offer cap on Amazon and Flipkart?

Neither store had published the 2026 cap when we checked. Last year the Big Billion Days cap was ₹1,750 per card on a ₹5,000 minimum. The cap shows on the offer terms and payment page.
