The best laptop under ₹40,000 right now is the Acer Aspire Lite AL15-41 with a Ryzen 5 5625U, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD at ₹35,999 (listed on 91mobiles, 4 October 2026).

Most other laptops in this band use an old Celeron N4500 with 8GB RAM, which is only fine for browsing and school work. Prices have risen this year, so a sub-₹40,000 laptop with 16GB RAM is the target to hold out for in the sale.

What ₹40,000 buys in 2026
A year ago this budget bought a Core i5 laptop with a good screen. In October 2026 it buys a basic machine. The 91mobiles listing for laptops under ₹40,000 is dominated by Acer Aspire 3 models with the Intel Celeron N4500 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, priced between ₹33,400 and ₹39,980, plus two Chromebooks. Only one listed Windows laptop has a proper mid-range processor: the Acer Aspire Lite AL15-41 with the AMD Ryzen 5 5625U.
Prices across laptops have gone up in 2026 because memory has become more expensive. Apple said so itself when it raised Indian MacBook prices on 26 June 2026, citing rising memory costs. Windows laptop makers face the same costs, which is why 16GB laptops now sit above ₹40,000 more often than before. Our MacBook buying guide has the Apple side.
Our pick: Acer Aspire Lite AL15-41
The Aspire Lite AL15-41 (part number UN.31ZSI.023) has a Ryzen 5 5625U, 16GB DDR4 RAM and a 512GB SSD, with a 15.6 inch screen, at ₹35,999 on the 91mobiles list. The 5625U is a six-core chip from 2022. It is not new, but it is far quicker than a Celeron and handles Chrome with many tabs, Excel and video calls without trouble. 16GB means it will stay usable for years. A listing from the same family, the Aspire Lite AL15-41 (UN.31ZSI.045) with a Ryzen 3 7330U and 8GB, is ₹44,890, so the 5625U version is both cheaper and better. That is why you should match the exact part number.
What you give up: this is a plastic laptop with an ordinary screen and short battery life compared with Snapdragon models. If you need all-day battery, jump to laptops under ₹50,000, where the Acer Aspire 14 AI lasted 15 hours in 91mobiles’ test.
The other options, and when they make sense
MSI Modern 15 B12M, ₹36,990
The Core i3-1215U with 8GB RAM and a 512GB SSD is slower than the Acer, but it gives you a numeric keypad, a backlit keyboard and quick charging. 91mobiles’ review scored it 7.5 out of 10 and called out a dim, muted display and the slow Gen 3 SSD. It suits an accounts or spreadsheet job where the numpad matters more than speed.
Acer Aspire 3 A325-45 and A311-45 (Celeron)
These Celeron N4500 models cost ₹33,400 to ₹39,980. A Celeron is built for basic tasks. They can run a browser, Word and online classes, and they struggle once you open more than a few tabs. If you must spend under ₹35,000, take the 512GB version with LPDDR4X (₹39,980) over the 256GB ones, and treat it as a two-to-three-year laptop.
Chromebooks
The Lenovo Chromebook Duet 11 (₹35,999, 8GB/128GB) and the ASUS Chromebook CM3206 (₹37,990 for 4GB/64GB) run ChromeOS, not Windows. They are fine for children and for web-only work. They cannot run desktop software like Tally or Photoshop, so do not buy one for office work. The 4GB/64GB ASUS is too small for most people.
A cheaper option: Chuwi CoreBook X Pro
91mobiles scored the Chuwi CoreBook X Pro 8.5 out of 10 at about ₹30,000, with a Core i5-12450H, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. Its weaknesses are a 6-bit display, battery life under five hours in the test and uncertain after-sales service. We do not recommend a laptop whose repair route is unclear, but it shows how much performance the Acer’s price is leaving behind.

What to expect in the Amazon and Flipkart sales
Amazon Great Indian Festival starts on 8 October 2026. Flipkart Big Billion Days starts on 9 October, with early access from midnight on 8 October for Plus, Black and Flipkart card holders. We found no confirmed laptop price under ₹40,000 for either sale yet. The laptops that have been announced so far sit higher: the HP OmniBook 3 (Snapdragon) at ₹49,200 on Flipkart after offers, the Acer Swift Neo at ₹56,040 and the ASUS Vivobook 15 at ₹59,990 on Amazon. So for this budget the sale mostly means you may get the Aspire Lite 5625U model for a few thousand less, or a bank offer that brings a ₹44,000 laptop to the high ₹30,000s.
Do the maths on any deal. If a laptop is ₹44,890 and the card discount is ₹5,000, you pay ₹39,890. That beats a Celeron at ₹39,980 by miles. Always compare the final amount, and check the SBI (Amazon) or Axis and ICICI (Flipkart) card caps on the Amazon bank offers page.
How long will a laptop at this price last?
A Ryzen 5 laptop with 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD should stay usable for four to five years of office, study and streaming use. A Celeron laptop with 8GB and 256GB will feel slow in about two years, mostly because Windows updates, browsers and apps keep growing. The cheapest way to extend the life of a basic laptop is to buy the 512GB version and avoid installing heavy software. If the laptop has a free RAM slot, adding a second 8GB stick later costs far less than replacing the machine. Ask the seller, or read the spec sheet, to see if the RAM is soldered or on a slot, because many thin laptops have it fixed.
What to avoid at this price
- A laptop with 4GB RAM or 64GB storage. Windows 11 alone leaves little room.
- An old Core i3 or Celeron laptop shown with a huge crossed-out price. Read how to spot fake discounts.
- A seller you cannot identify. Buy from a brand store or an assured seller with a warranty on the page.
- Buying only for the “AI” label. A Copilot+ label needs a Snapdragon X or Core Ultra chip, which starts above this budget. See AI laptops in the sale.

Questions people ask
Which is the best laptop under ₹40,000 in India in 2026?
The Acer Aspire Lite AL15-41 with Ryzen 5 5625U, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD at about ₹35,999 on 91mobiles’ 4 October 2026 list.
Is a Celeron laptop good enough?
For browsing, YouTube and school work, yes. For many tabs, office work or anything heavy, no. Choose a Ryzen 5 or Core i5 if you can.
Is 8GB RAM enough in 2026?
It works for light use but 16GB is safer, especially if you keep the laptop for four years.
Will laptop prices fall in the Big Billion Days sale?
Some will. A bank offer on a ₹44,000 laptop can bring it under ₹40,000, but we found no confirmed sub-₹40,000 sale prices yet.
Should I buy a Chromebook?
Only for children or web-only work. It cannot run most Windows desktop software.
Where do I check the sale prices?
Look at the product page on Amazon and Flipkart on 8 and 9 October, and compare the final amount after your card discount.
